CMNW proudly presents the Carter-Messiaen Project—a three-

musical icons—Elliott Carter (b. 1908) and Olivier Messiaen (1908-
1992)—born just one day apart in New York and Paris, respectively.
The legendary quartet Tashi reunites for these landmark concerts
after 30 years—a not-to-be-missed collaboration!
These Tashi reunion concerts will be heard only in New York,
Boston, Chicago and Portland.
Tashi’s appearance at Chamber Music Northwest in January 2008 will be the first time the group in its original form has come together after 30 years. These exclusive West coast concerts feature chamber music masterpieces of Carter and Messiaen, and also include examples of their broader influence in music by Takemitsu and Wuorinen written especially for Tashi.

REED COLLEGE ROMP!
“Carter and Messiaen at 100”
Born one day apart, on December 10 and 11, 1908 respectively, Olivier Messiaen and Elliott Carter shaped the sounds and, particularly, rhythms of new music in the second half of the 20th century and beyond. Concerts by Chamber Music Northwest, with musicians closely associated with both composers, and lectures by experts on their music will demonstrate why Carter and Messiaen have had and continue to have such a profound influence.
All ROMP lectures are free and open to the public, and take place in the Psychology Auditorium on the Reed College campus.
